At the end of 2020, strong customer authentication (SCA) was introduced for all mobile and online payments, including on Tiptapp, as part of new EU legislation.

For payments on Tiptapp, this means

  • More verification steps: When paying, more verification steps may be required than before.

  • Varying processes: Depending on your bank or card issuer, the process may include switching to the bank's app, receiving a verification code via SMS, or using Bank ID.

  • Authentication for purchases: Strong authentication will be required for all purchases over €30 and every fifth purchase under €30.

  • Longer and more complex payments: Your online payments may take longer and become more complex. We understand that this can be frustrating and apologize for any inconvenience.

What we recommend you to do

  1. Check your bank's practices: Find out how your bank has implemented the new directive by searching for 'PSD2' along with the name of your bank.

  2. Install the necessary apps: Make sure you have any apps or security measures your bank requires.

  3. Consider Apple Pay: Apple Pay and similar services can offer a smoother payment experience under the new regulations.

  4. Update your Tiptapp app: To avoid problems, make sure you have the latest version of Tiptapp installed.

  5. Check your purchase: Always return to the Tiptapp app after purchase to make sure it has been completed.

  6. Try other payment methods: If you experience problems completing your purchase, try another card or payment method.

Keep in mind that these changes are designed to increase the security of your payments and are part of a larger, EU-wide effort.
