Short answer
♻️ Tiptapp estimates climate savings by comparing reuse with buying new items.
The result is shown as an estimate in kilograms of CO₂e.
How the climate savings are calculated
When you reuse an item, the system assumes that a new purchase is avoided.
The system analyses the ad text and uploaded images.
Item type, material, and estimated weight are then identified.
Research-based CO₂e values per kilogram of material are used.
These values represent emissions from producing a similar new item.
The calculation is adjusted for remaining lifespan, since the item is already used.
A fixed transport impact corresponding to 10 km by car per pickup is deducted.
💡Good to know
The calculation is an estimate and not an exact value for a specific item.
